A Wine Lover’s Diary, part 943: A Harry Day in New York

NYC from the airport bus

Monday, September 23rd: Flew Porter from Billy Bishop Airport to New York City, on behalf of Grapes for Humanity, to attend an event at the University Club on Fifth Avenue, celebrating Angola’s Leadership in landmine clearance. “Angola’s leadership made a historic commitment of $60 million, enabling HALO to remove mines from two major national parks in southeast Angola… Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, announced the kick-off of this project and, like his mother, helped garner international attention to this important issue.”

Grapes for Humanity has been contributing funds over the last 25 years to the HALO Trust. Prince Harry’s Archewell foundation partnered with HALO in 2019.

Prince Harry

After the press conference VIP Guests went upstairs to meet Prince Harry and have a brief chat with him as we stood in pods around high-top tables.

I was booked into the Diu Hotel – but nobody told me that there were two Diu Hotels in New York. I walked to the wrong one, as there were no cabs to be had. When I finally got to the right one, I asked the desk for directions to Milos, the Greek fish restaurant, where I had been invited to dine by my friend Rami. The hotel didn’t say there were two Milos restaurants in New York City – and I was directed to the wrong one! I arrived an hour late. But the food and the wines were great.
