A Wine Lover’s Diary, part 1022: Salmon, Oysters and Crocodiles

Monday, June 1st: Opened a bottle of Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay 2024 from New Zealand – the first from a case. What a great wine. Happy I bought a dozen.

Tuesday, June 2nd: Dinner: roast chicken with Peller Estates JEP Red.

Wednesday, June 3rd: At A Cappella Niagara chorus rehearsal this evening we had a Tag & Gag competition, six quartets singing a short tag and telling a joke or some comic business, My quartet was The Young And The Rest Of Us. Our tag was “Danny My Boy” (see www.youtube.com/watch?v=t11-9HfnqcE). We didn’t win the coveted Crocodile Award, but it was great fun.

Thursday, June 4th: Dinner at oddBird, oysters, a glass of Thirteenth Street Sparkling, peas and crab in sauce, then butter chicken with a glass of Organized Crime Sauvignon Blanc.



Friday, June 5th: Dinner: sausages with a bottle of Malivoire Moira Rose 2024.

Saturday, June 6th: Deborah and I went to a “Nature and Science of Health: Summer Workshop” at Mingle Hill Market Place and Farm, conducted by our friend Dr. Tina Petrelli.

Then we came home to prepare dinner for our winemaker friends Anne Sperling and Peter Gamble. Aperitifs on the deck with a bottle of Kumeu River Chardonnay 2024. First course: salmon poke on a bed of arugula with Laroche Saint-Martin Chablis 2024.
