This wine, Southbrook Chardonnay Estate 2023, was a Top 50 winner at Selections Mondiales des Vins this year
Monday, February 2nd: Dinner tonight, chili con carne with Don David Malbec Reserve 2024 from Argentina.
Tuesday, February 3rd: Dinner: pan-seared steak with Angus the Bull Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 from Central Victoria, Australia.
Wednesday, February 4th: Dinner: Blackened scallops with Tierra Rica Sauvignon Blanc 2025 (Chile).
Thursday, February 5th: Dinner at John Nadeau’s. He asked me to bring over an Italian wine to go with his spaghetti and meat sauce. I dug out a bottle of Arnoldo-Caprai The Outsider 2010. John served Southbrook Triomphe Merlot 2020.
Friday, February 6th: This morning Deborah and I went to the St. Catharine’s Coliseum to see Edward Burtynski’s “In the Wake of Progress” – a multimedia representation of mankind’s rape of the planet. A very moving and thought-provoking experience.
Dinner, grilled salmon with a bottle of Kelly Mason L’Avenir Chardonnay 2023.
Saturday, February 7th: Dinner, Argentinian prawns in cream sauce with brown rice, and a bottle of Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc 2025 from Marlborough.
Sunday, February 8th: We drove up to Waterloo to have lunch with our grandchildren – bagels, chopped egg, smoked salmon and cream cheese. I brought along a bottle of On Seven Devotion Chardonnay 2021. Perfect with the meal. In the evening we were invited to a Super Bowl party. Our host Rick made a fabulous chili con carne and wings. I bought a bottle from Moldova (via the LCBO), Crama Regala Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, which was well received. Go Seahawks!
