The other night Deborah and I feasted on an Alsace Thai-inspired banquet artfully paired with the wines of the region and kindly sent to us by SOPEXA in Montreal. The menu:

Aperitif wine: Willm Riesling Réserve 2019

Ontario salad, miso vinaigrette, radish & daikon served with Joseph Cattin Pinot Blanc 2019

Spicy Thai sesame peanut noodles with vegetables and green onion, Willm Gewurztraminer Réserve 2019

Smoked cucumber salad, chili flakes, Dirler-Cadé Crémant d’Alsace Brut 2016

Shoyu duck rillette with Pierre Sparr Gewurztraminer 2020

Assortment of exotic South East Asian fruits with Domaine Frey-Sohler Crémant d’Alsace 2012.

A feast indeed!

Also tasted this week:

Piazzano Ventoso Sangiovese Toscana 2019 ($17, Vintages #22761, to be released on January 8th, 2022)
Dense purple in colour; cedary cherry nose with oak spice and a vanilla note; medium-bodied, dry, firmly structured sour cherry and blackcurrant flavours; beautifully balanced, with ripe tannins. Great value. (90)
