Winemaker Kelly Mason

Kelly Mason is a busy lady. Not only does she make wine at Honsberger Estate but she also works with Thomas Bachelder at Domaine Queylus; and in addition, she makes wine at The Farm and runs her own 5-acre vineyard (The Farm’s Kelly Mason Vineyard Pinot Noir is one of my favourite Niagara Pinots).

Honsberger Estate Brut: A 100% Riesling traditional method sparkler with 3g/l dosage. Pale straw colour; yeasty, minerally, green apple and citrus nose; light-bodied, crisply dry, grapefruit and green apple flavours. Great length. (89)

Honsberger Estate Riesling 2014: Pale straw colour; grapefruit bouquet with a touch of petrol; light-bodied, exquisitely dry, almost tart, green apple and lemon flavours. Very Mosel in style. (90)

Honsberger Estate Riesling 2018: Pale straw colour; minerally, lightly floral nose with a suggestion of petrol; light-bodied, dry, lemony-grapefruit flavour with admirable length. (88)

Honsberger Estate Chardonnay Schuele Vineyard 2017 (wild ferment): Medium straw colour; lightly toasty, apple with a woodsy note; medium-bodied, dry, green pineapple and green peach bouquet; nicely balanced lemony, apple flavour with well-integrated oak and a lovely mouth-feel. (90)

Honsberger Estate Rosé 2018 (Cabernet Franc): Pale salmon in colour; lightly floral, cherry nose; well-extracted cherry and cranberry flavours, crisply dry and very elegant. Great summer wine! (90)
