Lakeview Vidal Icewine 2016
Ontario Icewine is the perfect Christmas dessert wine, sweet enough to complement mince pies and plum pudding. The best value you’re going to find is a 200 mL bottle of Lakeview Cellars Vidal Icewine at a limited time offer until January 6th of $19.95. This award-winning Icewine is old gold in colour with an intense nose of ripe peach and pineapple with honeyed tones. Medium-bodied, its unctuous sweetness is balanced by piercing lemony acidity that carries the succulent peach and pineapple flavours to a long, lingering finish. A dessert in a glass. That’s Lakeview Cellars Vidal Icewine 2016 from Ontario. For Post City Magazine, I’m Tony Aspler, 680 News. ($11.95 until Jan. 6th and then $13.95, Vintages #522672)

El Dorado 12-Year-Old Rum
I don’t usually do spirits in this Wine View spot but here is a great Christmas gift for someone special on your Santa list: El Dorado 12-Year-Old Rum from Guyana at the LCBO. Deep amber in colour with orange highlights, it offers a spirity, vanilla oak and caramel nose; rich and full on the palate, spicy, raisin, date and brown sugar flavours fill the mouth. Beautifully balanced and lingering, it’s almost Cognac-like in its intensity and length, finishing on a burnt sugar note. It costs $40.20 currently on LCBO shelves but will rise $2 in price after January 6th. Serve it in a brandy snifter for full effect. That’s El Dorado 12-Year-Old Rum from Guyana. For Post City Magazine, I’m Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($40.20 until Jan. 6, then $42.20; LCBO #60608)
