Torres Altos Ibericos 2014
If you like the dark meat of the turkey, here’s the perfect Christmas match: Torres Altos Ibericos 2014, a 100% Tempranillo wine from Spain’s Rioja region. Deep ruby in colour, it shows a cedary, cherry nose with sandalwood and floral notes; medium-bodied and dry, expect elegant, savoury, strawberry and blackcurrant flavours with lively acidity and a lovely mouth-feel. And the good news is that it’s a “limited time offer” at the LCBO now: $2 off at $12.95 until December 31st. This versatile wine works with red meat dishes as well. That’s Torres Altos Ibericos 2014 from Spain on the LCBO’s general list. For Post City Magazines, I’m Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($12.95, LCBO #527291) (89)

SonVida Malbec 2013
When I tell you the price of this Argentinian Malbec is $29.95, don’t have a conniption – because it’s really worth it; and this being the season of gustatory excess, spoil yourself. SonVida Malbec 2013 from the Mendoza Valley is made by a British couple who settled in the Uco Valley in 2007.  Their wine, with 5% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, is dense purple in colour with a cedary-savoury-herbal nose of blackcurrants and roasted coffee beans; medium to full-bodied and dry, it has richly extracted flavours of blackberries and dark chocolate with well-integrated oak, lively acidity and a lovely mouth-feel. Match it with roast beef or steak. That’s SonVida Malbec 2013 from Argentina at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I’m Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($29.95, Vintages #458240) (90)
