A Wine Lover’s Diary, part 349: Building a wine list fit for the Falls

Monday, June 27: Wrote a piece for Decanter Magazine on Ontario’s dry table wines. Called Angela Lyons, who represents Penfolds, to see if Peter Gago would be able to do a winemaker dinner for grapes for Humanity in 2012. A meeting with Doug Birrell and Jamie Kennedy to discuss the restaurant in the Sheraton on the Falls. For dinner with chicken, Mission Hill Five Vineyards Sauvignon 2010. Reminds me of Pessac-Léognan.

Tuesday, June 28: Started working on the international wine list to the restaurant. A conference call with Right to Play. Grapes for Humanity is looking for a project to donate to. Daniel Speck from Henry of Pelham came to the condo at 5 pm for me to taste his wines. For dinner, tilapia with Oyster Bay Chardonnay 2010, always a reliable wine.

Wednesday, June 29: Spent the day working on the wine list. Now have a new computer, a 15-inch Dell laptop with Windows 2010. Taking me a while to get to know it. A big change from my Fisher-Price!

Thursday, June 30: An early meeting with Colin Halpern to discuss wines for the restaurant wine list. Then to 680News to record my wine reviews. In the afternoon Nick Keukenmeester came to the condo with wines imported by Lifford which might be suitable for the wine list. Wrote my columns for Post City Magazines and On the Go.

Friday, July 1: Canada Day. Gave Pinot the Wonder Dog a long walk in Sherwood Park. She now has her own Facebook page (Pinot T. Wonderdog). To celebrate the day I opened a bottle of Thirty Bench Steel Post vineyard Riesling 2010.
