A Wine Lover’s Diary, part 968: When the Wife’s Away…

A different kind of dessert (see March 30th)

Monday, March 24th: At our bi-monthly Zoom with friends who participate in my annual wine tour to European vineyards, I choose a wine that everyone opens and we do a show-and-tell. This evening the wine choice was Cabernet Franc. I opened a bottle of Domaine Queylus Cabernet Franc Reserve 2020.

Thursday, March 27th: Steak dinner with The Black Chook Shiraz Viognier 2022.

Friday March 28th: Deborah was picked up early for a flight to Cuba. She’s gone there with her Zumba ladies’ group for a week of dancercise. With Cacio Pepe’s Beef Bourguignon, a glass of Township 7 Reserve 7 2021 – a Meritage from the Okanagan.

Saturday, March 29th: To Southbrook for the book launch of Chef Grant MacPherson’s Viva La Lobster recipe book. Grant is a graduate of Niagara College’s culinary programme now resident in Las Vegas.

Sunday, March 30th: Invited to dinner by my friends Sherri and Stephen, who luckily live within a five-minute walk from my house. Stephen barbecued steaks. The wines: Malivoire Demo Series Cabernet Franc & Gamay 2023, Provolo Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore. For dessert, Anton Berg Single Malts Scotch Collection in tiny chocolate bottles (Mine was Talisker), followed by a VSOP Cognac. And so, to bed – after walking Rosie.
