Another quiet wine week – almost like the lockdown!
Sunday March 16th: With lamb chops for dinner, Peter Gamble and Ann Sperling’s Versado Old Vines Malbec 2019 from their vineyard in Mendoza.
Tuesday, March 18th: After the Southbrook tasting (see last week’s diary, part 966), I decided to open a wine I’ve been cellaring for a long time, concerned, in fact, that I have been keeping it to long: Yarden Galilee Cabernet Sauvignon 2001. It was nothing short of spectacular, although the spongy cork gave me pause when I opened it.
Thursday, March 20th: Picked up some wine from Costco amongst which was Louis Latour Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023, which we had with sautéed fillets of cod (also courtesy of Mr. Costco).
Friday, March 21st: Rooting around in my local LCBO I came across some bottles of One Pound Per Acre Shiraz 2022 from South Australia – one of the best values at the Board at $9.95. I thought it had sold out. Bought four bottles.
Saturday, March 22nd: Deborah and I drove to Waterford for celebrate the 70th birthday of our friend Doug Beatty. We forgot that the invitation said come as the ’70s – which Doug did in style. Delighted to see there two other old friends – Mike and Heather Mandel.

For dinner at home that night, a bottle of The Black Chook Shiraz Viognier 2022 from McLaren Vale.
