Sunday, December 22nd: Deborah and I drove to Waterloo to take our grandchildren, Isla and Max, and their parents, on Waterloo Central Railway’s “Santa’s Jolly Journey” – an hour-long train ride with Santa and his elves. The carriages were decorated with candy canes and fir tree boughs. There was singing and games and each kid and adult received a candy cane as we disembarked. I think Max was more impressed meeting the train’s conductor than Santa Claus.
Tuesday, December 24th: For Christmas Eve we drove back to Waterloo again to give the kids their presents, along with the other grandparents and have dinner. I supplied the wines: Henry of Pelham The Speck Family Tree “The Goat Lady” Chardonnay, L’Ormarins Brut Classique Rosé (South Africa), and Niagara College Pinot Noir 2022.
Wednesday, December 25th: Christmas dinner at our friends’ John and Erica’s new apartment along with two other couples. I brought along a wine I had been cellaring for years: Michel Colin-Deléger et Fils Maranges “La Fussière” 1998, which was delicious. Also drank Château Hyot 2020, Kacaba Cabernet Franc 2019.
Other wines tasted this week: Little Engine Pinot Noir 2020 (Okanagan Valley), Millésime Blanc de Blanc Brut, Black Bank Hill Runway White, Stand Apart Gamay Jagged Rock Vineyard 2023 (Okanagan Valley), Stonewall Estates Chardonnay 2023 (Niagara Peninsula), Perez Cruz Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 (Chile).
