In March I reviewed a series of wines made by Allison Findlay and her students at Niagara College’s teaching winery. I have been doing this for many years, rating their wines for possible inclusion on the Dean’s List. The most impressive sample, not yet bottled then, was the Pinot Noir 2022. My note was as follows:
Niagara College Dean’s List Pinot Noir 2022
Ruby in colour; lifted nose of violets and raspberries and a suggestion of toastiness from oak spice; medium-bodied, dry, elegant, raspberry flavour; very Burgundian, in Volnay style, well-integrated oak with a fine spine of balancing acidity. Dean’s List Cum Laude! (93)
I re-tasted it this week and was delighted to find that it deserved an extra point. So, it’s now 94. This delicious wine is only available at Niagara College’s Wine Visitor + Education Centre and costs $32.75.
Other wines tasted this week: Inniskillin Legacy Shiraz Merlot 2010; Cave Spring Cabernet Franc 2023; Meneghetti Red 2018 (Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc, from Croatia); King + Victoria Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 (Creek Shores, Niagara); Southbrook Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2020.
