680News wine reviews – July 23–25, 2010

Boekenhoutskloof Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2009
One of my favorite South African Syrahs comes from a winery that's very hard to pronounce if you don't speak Afrikaans. Anyway, here goes: Boekenhoutskloof Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2009. Just call it Porcupine Ridge and it's available at Vintages for $14.95. This wine is richly textured and full-bodied with notes of sweet blackberry, smoke, herbs and black pepper. Amazing concentration of flavour for the price. Marry it with pepper steak or game dishes. That's Boekenhoutskloof Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2009 from South Africa at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. (Vintages #595280, $14.95)

Roberto Anselmi San Vincenzo 2009
Roberto Anselmi, one of the best white wine producers in Veneto, has opted out of the Soave denomination by defying the regulations. He added some Chardonnay to the traditional Garganega and Trebbiano grapes and has produced year after year a beautifully balanced wine. Flavours of peach and pear are carried on citrus acidity. It costs $14.95 at Vintages outlets. Partner it with seafood salad or spaghetti vongole. That's Roberto Anselmi San Vincenzo 2009 from Italy's Veneto region. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. (Vintages #948158, $14.95)
